Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled GIS Technician to join our team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geographic information systems and spatial data analysis. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting our projects by analyzing spatial data, creating detailed maps, and providing technical expertise to enhance our decision-making processes. You will work collaboratively with our team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our geospatial data, while effectively communicating your findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate as one of the firm’s GIS support staff with respect to the disciplines related to Environmental Due Diligence, Corrective Action, Compliance, Natural and Cultural Resources and Building Sciences.
- Assist in the completion of numerous project tasks simultaneously with potentially widely varying scopes of work.
- Assist technical staff with the preparation of Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments through GIS and project research support.
- Conduct research on a variety of environmental related topics.
- Deliver reports to clients through ESE’s electronic delivery system.
- Set-up due diligence project files.
- Order support materials such as regulatory data and historical aerial photographs.
- Data entry using ArcGIS, MS SQL Server, Trello, Microsoft Excel and Core.
- Develop Project Data Controls and In-house Databases.
- Manage Internal Project Development Budgets.
- Evaluate and Recommend New Data Management Technologies.
- Manage subcontractor invoices.
- Develop Site Maps and other pertinent exhibits using Arc GIS and Strater.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with vendors.
- Word Processing and Document Preparation using applications such as Microsoft Word, Project and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with Python is preferred, but not required.
- Collaborate with other team members and departments to support project objectives.
- Perform other project duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Working towards a degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience or familiarity with GIS software such as ArcPro, ArcMap, ArcGISOnline, QGIS, or MapInfo.
- Experience with spatial data management and analysis.
- Knowledge of cartographic principles and map design.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with remote sensing, GPS technology, and spatial analysis techniques.
- Experience with scripting languages like Python for GIS automation.
