Renewable Energy Consultants for Solar, Wind, and Battery Storage Development

Environmental Science and Engineering Partners (ESE) is a team of renewable energy consultants supporting developers, utilities, and infrastructure firms moving solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects from early site screening through construction and post-construction monitoring. Our vertically integrated team brings due diligence, natural resources, cultural resources, compliance, and remediation specialists under one roof, so you can manage regulatory requirements, control costs, and keep schedules on track without coordinating multiple firms.

Who We Serve

Our renewable energy consulting clients include solar and wind developers, independent power producers, utilities, transmission and infrastructure firms, EPC contractors, lenders and investors evaluating energy assets, and industrial landowners pursuing on-site generation.

Whether you’re screening a 5,000-acre greenfield site, routing a transmission corridor, or closing on an operating portfolio, our team scales to fit the project.

Comprehensive Renewable Energy Consulting Services

Headquartered in Houston with offices in League City, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin, ESE delivers renewable energy consulting services nationwide across four core practice areas, drawing on our Natural Resources and Cultural Resources teams.

Due Diligence

Early-stage environmental risk identification protects deal value and prevents costly surprises during financing or construction.

Why Developers Choose ESE Partners

Renewable energy projects fail or stall on details: an unmapped wetland, an overlooked eagle nest, a transmission corridor crossing prime farmland. ESE’s renewable energy consulting services are built around catching those issues at the screening stage, not after the PPA is signed.

Our team has supported large-scale solar projects across Texas and Florida, including:

  • BESS feasibility work along the Gulf Coast
  • Utility-scale wind projects in Oklahoma involving multi-year aerial eagle and raptor nest surveys
  • American Burying Beetle protocol work
  • USFWS coordination under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act

Frequently Asked Questions

When in the development cycle should I bring in a renewable energy consultant?

Ideally, during site screening, before land control is finalized. A Critical Issues Analysis at this stage flags wetlands, protected species habitat, floodplains, prime farmland, and cultural resource concerns that can reshape layout, cost, or feasibility, well before you’ve committed capital.

Do you handle battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in addition to solar and wind?

Yes. ESE has completed CIAs, permitting matrices, and feasibility evaluations for BESS facilities, including a project in Matagorda County, Texas. We compared two alternative site layouts and transmission corridors by analyzing wetlands, T&E species habitat, floodplains, and prime farmland, to help the client choose the more permissible option.

What permitting risks are most often missed on solar and wind sites?

Common late-discovery issues include jurisdictional waters that weren’t field-verified, undocumented eagle or migratory bird nests within survey buffers, regulatory floodways, and habitat for state-listed species that don’t appear on federal databases. Each can trigger a redesign, additional surveys, or coordination with USACE/USFWS.

Can ESE support projects outside of Texas?

Yes. While we’re a Texas-based firm, our renewable energy consultants have completed projects in multiple states, including large-scale solar work in Florida and utility-scale wind work in Oklahoma. We also conduct bat acoustic monitoring in several states.
